Introduction to Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic Touch (TT) is a scientific intervention, first taught at New York University in 1972 by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN.  It was co-created by Dr. Krieger and Dora Kunz, a natural healer. It was the first form of energetic healing taught in a Western university setting. TT has been found to be beneficial in a wide variety of health challenges. It can be used for personal health and healing and applied to benefit oneself. Therapeutic Touch is an intentional & consciously directed process of energy exchange practiced by many healthcare professionals and lay people. It is utilized in hundreds of medical centers in the US and has been taught in over 105 countries abroad. Currently over 50 doctoral dissertations have been accepted at various universities with nearly 30 post-doctoral researches on the TT process.

Faculty

Shirley Spear Begley, RN, BFA, HNB-BC, NCTMB, CCHT, QTTT and our experienced faculty members have taught TT since the 1980s and are highly experienced teachers and practitioners selected directly by Dolores Krieger as teachers and mentors. Shirley taught with and was selected by Dr. Krieger as the Coordinator, then as Director of the East Coast Therapeutic Touch Invitational Mentorship Program. Shirley is an internationally qualified TT teacher credentialed by Therapeutic Touch International Association.

Bev Zabler, PhD, RN, FNP has been practicing and teaching TT for many years. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. A long time practitioner and proponent of integrative healthcare, she was selected originally as a mentor by Dolores Krieger, the co-creator of TT. Bev served as a mentor for both the East Coast Mentorship Program in 2000 and 2008. She now mentors annually for the Therapeutic Touch Invitational Mentorship Programs in Florida and sits on the Integrated Health Care Systems’ Board of Advisors where she is highly valued for her assistance with programs and policies for the organization.
Our faculty have practiced TT extensively and together they have taught TT to thousands of practitioners. They are known for their practical ability to translate challenging concepts and make them comprehensible. Student evaluations rate them very highly for their compassion and presence. Their collaborative style and belief that learning should be fun, make them wonderfully approachable and dynamic TT teachers.  Link to Bios

Additional Faculty are selected annually as teachers and mentors. 2018 – TBA.

TT Practicum and Healing Retreat at DaySpring Conference Center
Following the Basic TT Seminar is an optional 3 Day Supervised Practicum and Self-Healing Retreat.
If you choose to join us, you won’t be sorry you stayed! Under the supervision of highly qualified teachers, you will be guided to learn and deepen your skills in energetic healing work, gaining greater confidence and competence in yourself and the TT process. Applications for personal use and working with your families, as well as in clinical practice settings will be covered. The TT Practicum will be based on the needs and interests of all participants. Reflective time is carved out during the TT Practicum to allow you quiet time and time in nature. Gentle, skillful guidance is provided to enhance your experience within the Healing Retreat.

A Natural Setting on the Manatee River
Amidst a beautiful natural setting on the Manatee River, reflective time is incorporated with rest and relaxation as a self-healing modality. Ceremonies, discussions, exercises, time for questions and answers as well as giving and receiving Therapeutic Touch with guidance are all part of this Practicum. An ecologically “green space,” there is a swimming pool, labyrinth, canoes, trails, oak canopy walk, tiki by the river, and more to give us the “down-time” we need to heal. Time to mingle with people of like-mind adds richness to the Program. For those who stay for the TT Practicum, free time in nature is scheduled as part of the Healing Retreat Time.
Kum Nye, Guided Imagery and Meditations, and Breathing for Stress Management are included in the uniqueness of this Program’s experience!  These methods add to your ability to more readily perceive energy during the TT process.

*NOTE: On Spiral Fractals: The above spiral design is a fractal also sometimes called a cosmic recursive. From our research we learned that during World War I, a French mathematician named Gaston Julia was probably the first to draw a fractal. Benoit Mandelbrot is normally seen as the father of fractals. He played a pivotal role in the development of the branch of mathematics called "chaos theory," the study of very complex dynamical systems. Fractals are used to model the behavior of complex and almost unpredictable systems. The above design is by an artist unknown to us. We are grateful to share this image with you. If the artist becomes known, credit will be provided.
